“For I was hungry and you gave me food, I was thirsty and you gave me drink, a stranger and you welcomed me…” – Matthew 25:35
At St. Wulstan’s and St. John the Evangelist, our commitment to faith is lived out through service. Social outreach is an essential part of our parish mission—extending Christ’s compassion to those in need, building community, and offering hospitality and support both within and beyond our church walls. From charitable partnerships to local social activities, we aim to be a visible sign of God’s love in action.
CAFOD (Catholic Agency for Overseas Development)
Our parish actively supports the work of CAFOD, the Catholic Church’s official aid agency, which fights poverty and injustice around the world. The parish CAFOD team raises awareness of global issues, leads prayers and campaigns, and coordinates fundraising efforts such as Family Fast Days and emergency appeals. Through CAFOD, we stand in solidarity with our global neighbours and work for a more just and peaceful world.

SVP (St. Vincent de Paul Society)
The SVP is a lay Catholic organisation dedicated to serving the most vulnerable and isolated in our community. Through personal visits, practical help, and compassionate listening, SVP members bring hope and dignity to the elderly, sick, lonely, and struggling. Our parish SVP group also supports food provision, transport, and befriending services.

Uniformed Groups (Scouts, Guides, etc.)
Uniform groups like Scouts, Guides, Brownies, and Beavers have a long-standing connection with the parish, helping to nurture values of service, teamwork, respect, and leadership among children and young people. These groups often participate in church events, family Masses, and community days—forming a bridge between faith and practical life skills.
(Please contact the parish office for information on current meeting times and availability.)
Coffee Mornings
Weekly coffee mornings offer parishioners and guests a chance to come together for conversation, connection, and fellowship. Held after Sunday Mass or during the week, these informal gatherings are especially valuable for newcomers, those living alone, or anyone seeking a warm and welcoming space.
Afternoon Teas
Our occasional afternoon teas are a cherished part of parish life, especially among our older community members. With sandwiches, cakes, and refreshments served in a friendly environment, they offer both hospitality and joy. These events are often themed or include gentle entertainment and are appreciated as moments of rest and relationship-building.
Autumn Fayre
The annual Autumn Fayre is one of the highlights of our parish calendar. This lively event brings the entire community together with stalls, homemade goods, games, raffles, and refreshments. It’s an important fundraiser for parish activities and a joyful celebration that welcomes people of all ages.
Craft Club
The Craft Club is a space for creativity, conversation, and companionship. Parishioners gather to knit, crochet, sew, and craft a variety of items—some for personal enjoyment, others to sell at church fundraisers like the Autumn Fayre. Open to all skill levels, the club fosters both artistic expression and spiritual friendship.
Community Centre / Parish Hall
Our
community centres and parish halls at both churches are vital hubs for parish and neighbourhood life. They host not only church-related events but also social functions, classes, and external community groups. These spaces are open to hire and play an important role in strengthening the bond between the parish and the wider local population.
