One Parish, Two Churches – United in Faith, Service, and Community
The Catholic parish comprising St John the Evangelist Catholic Church and St. Wulstan’s Catholic Church forms a single, vibrant parish community within the Archdiocese of Birmingham (Registered Charity No. 234216).
While each church has its own rich and distinct heritage, we are united as one parish family, sharing a common mission, pastoral leadership, and commitment to the Gospel. Together, we serve the people of Chesterton, Wolstanton, and the surrounding communities in faith, hope, and love.
Our Shared Mission
Under the pastoral care of Fr John Waters, our parish is called to:
- Proclaim the Gospel of Jesus Christ
- Celebrate the Sacraments with reverence and joy
- Support one another through prayer, service, and pastoral care
- Respond with compassion to the spiritual and practical needs of our communities
We journey together in faith, striving to build a strong, prayerful, and inclusive parish where all are welcomed and valued.
Our Mission Statement
We welcome everyone and work to develop a community of faith and compassion, where parishioners’ talents and abilities are used to encourage the young, cherish the elderly, support one another’s needs, and bring God’s love to all.
Two Churches, One Parish Life
Although worship takes place across two church communities, parish life is shared and collaborative. Together we offer:
- Faith Formation – RCIA, sacramental preparation, children’s liturgy
- Liturgical Ministries – choir, altar servers, lectors, sacristans, Eucharistic ministers
- Outreach and Fellowship – CAFOD support, social action, parish events
- Community Life – coffee after Mass, social gatherings, and fundraising activities
Each church retains its local character and traditions, while contributing fully to the life and mission of the wider parish.
Parish Leadership
Parish Priest: Fr John Waters
Fr John was appointed Parish Priest of both St John the Evangelist and St Wulstan’s in 2025. A native of Coventry, he brings academic formation, pastoral experience, and a deep love of liturgy and parish life to the care of both communities.
