Evangelisation

“Go, therefore, and make disciples of all nations…” – Matthew 28:19

Evangelisation is at the heart of the Church’s mission. At St. Wulstan’s and St. John the Evangelist, we understand evangelisation not merely as preaching but as witnessing to the love of Christ in word and action. Whether through sacramental preparation, pastoral care, or faith formation in schools and the wider parish, we seek to accompany people at every stage of their faith journey and invite them into a deeper relationship with God.

In line with the Church’s call to synodality, we actively participate in listening, discerning, and journeying together as a parish. Through our Synod discussions, listening circles, and formation gatherings, we provide space for parishioners to share their insights, deepen their understanding of the faith, and contribute to the future direction of our Church. This is not just a process; it is a culture of inclusion, dialogue, and spiritual renewal.
The sacraments are central to our life in Christ. Our parish offers thoughtful, well-supported preparation for all major sacraments, engaging individuals and families in a process that is personal, pastoral, and spiritually enriching.
Baptism is the gateway to Christian life. We offer baptism preparation for parents and godparents to understand the significance of this sacrament and their role in nurturing their child’s faith. Baptisms are celebrated with joy and reverence in the presence of the parish community.
Children typically prepare for their First Holy Communion around the age of seven or eight. Through parish-based catechesis, supported by families and our primary schools, children are taught about the real presence of Christ in the Eucharist and the importance of participating fully in the life of the Church.
Confirmation seals the gifts of the Holy Spirit received at Baptism. Our preparation programme invites candidates (usually teenagers) to explore their faith more deeply, understand the responsibilities of Christian adulthood, and commit themselves more fully to Christ and His Church.
Engaged couples are invited to meet with the parish priest and take part in a marriage preparation course that explores the sacramental meaning of marriage, communication, commitment, and the spiritual foundation of a Catholic union. We are happy to journey with couples from planning to blessing.
The Sacrament of the Anointing of the Sick is available to those who are seriously ill, elderly, or preparing for surgery. It brings healing, peace, and the grace of Christ’s presence in times of suffering. Parishioners may request this sacrament at home, in hospital, or during parish healing Masses.
Our parish maintains strong relationships with local Catholic primary and secondary schools, working together to support the spiritual and moral formation of young people. Through school Masses, sacramental programmes, classroom visits, and RE support, we help students grow in their faith and identity as children of God.
Fr. John Waters serve as chaplains and pastoral supports for our schools, ensuring that our children and youth are accompanied in their faith journeys within a nurturing and faith-filled environment.
