Meet the Parish priest

Fr John Waters – Parish Priest of Wolstanton and Chesterton

Fr John Waters serves as the Parish Priest for both St. Wulstan’s Catholic Church, Wolstanton and St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church, Chesterton.

Born in Coventry, Fr John began his journey to the priesthood in 2011. His formation started at the Royal English College in Valladolid, Spain, and continued at the Venerable English College in Rome.

He was ordained to the priesthood in July 2019 by Archbishop Bernard Longley and offered his First Mass at All Souls Church, Coventry, the parish where he had been baptised. In June 2020, Fr John obtained a Licentiate in Canon Law from the Pontifical Gregorian University in Rome and returned to serve in the Archdiocese of Birmingham.

His first pastoral assignment was as Assistant Priest at St. Dunstan’s, King’s Heath, and St. Jude’s, Maypole, starting in September 2020. After three years of service, he was appointed to Holy Trinity Catholic Church, Newcastle-under-Lyme, before taking up his current role as Parish Priest of Wolstanton and Chesterton in May 2025.

In addition to his parish responsibilities, Fr John also serves as Chaplain to St John Fisher Catholic College and contributes to various diocesan ministries through his training as a Canon Lawyer.
